PESIOD Publications only publishes non-fiction books on Christian subjects by UK and Ireland based authors who agree with our theological convictions. We are keen to serve authors who share our vision of helping people to serve God eagerly and earnestly. You can read about our existing authors below. We cannot receive unsolicited manuscripts from unknown authors. Our process for deciding which authors and books to publish is as follows:
Initial contact - if you are a Christian in agreement with our theological convictions and living in the UK or Ireland and you would like to explore publishing with us, you may email us with: (1) a brief introduction to you explaining what suits you to write Christian books (e.g., past publications, ministry experience or theological education); (2) a general sense of your idea for a book or books. Please do not send us manuscripts or book proposals at this stage.
Author vetting - if we are interested in you and your idea, we will seek further confirmation of your suitability to be any author with us. We will ask you to complete a more detailed form about you, to affirm your agreement with our theological principles, to send a CV detailing your experience in Christian ministry or as a writer, and will take references supporting your Christian faith and character. This step has priority over consideration of your book proposal because we believe that character is more important than content. We do not require our authors to have an exclusive arrangement with us (they are free to publish with other publishers).
Proposal - if we are satisfied with the vetting process, we will ask you to send a book proposal or, ideally, a draft manuscript. If we are still interested after reviewing this, we may suggest amendments for you to make before we can agree to publish your book.
Agreement and fees - if we agree to publish your book, we will issue a publishing agreement for you to sign. This agreement will commit you to publishing your book with PESIOD and to working with PESIOD on any arrangements for translations of the book to be published elsewhere. The agreement will also specify the financial arrangement for your book, which comprises two elements:
An editing fee - normally £1.50 for each 100 words.
A share of royalties - normally £1 (or the equivalent amount in other currencies) per copy for books up to 50,000 words and £2 (or equivalent) per copy for longer books. Unlike traditional publishers, which pay you royalties for sales, you will receive the royalties on your book sales. You will then need to transfer the agreed amount per copy to us.
Since we are committed to getting quality materials to print and do not seek to profit, we may in some instances waive the editing fee and/or agree a reduced share of royalties for authors who are supported in Christian mission or ministry and have limited financial means.
Editing - once your manuscript is ready, one of our experienced editors will review it for: (1) consistency with our theological convictions; (2) faithful handling of Scripture; and (3) quality of thinking and expression. Your editing fee is payable by bank transfer on completion of this stage or in increments if your editor agrees to edit the manuscript in sections.
Finalising the manuscript - with the content agreed, your book is ready for type-setting. We can provide you with the template to do this yourself or we can do it for you at an additional cost of £1 per 500 words. The type set work must then be proof read, which you must arrange yourself. Cover design is also an important part of this stage. You must arrange it yourself, although we may be able to direct you to a designer should you need our help (you will arrange the design fee directly with the designer). If you want to create a Kindle e-book, you must either set this up yourself or we may be able to arrange that at an additional fee of £1 per 500 words.
Publication - you will need to set up the publication through the Kindle Direct Publishing system. This is necessary so that you receive the royalties to your own account and can track sales of the book. You will also be able to order author copies at print cost which you can sell on. Please note that we cannot distribute your book for you to book retailers other than Amazon, although you are free to do so yourself. You retain copyright of the book's content but may not publish it in the original language or in translation without agreement with PESIOD. You will also need to pay the agreed share of royalties to PESIOD on a six-monthly basis, providing a screenshot of sales figures from KDP and details of author copies sold through other avenues.
Publicity - we will publicise the book through our website and any other reasonable avenues but we cannot guarantee a specific number of book sales. You may wish to publicise your book in other ways and are free to do so, although we ask that you drive people as much as possible to this website to find details of the book and to link through to Amazon for sales.
